Please note that any information on this page, including dates of tests and assignment submissions, may be subject to change during the term. If that be the case, you will be notified in lecture and via email.
There are three lectures each week, they are on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays 15:30-14:20. Due to McMaster policy, I cannot state the lecture hall here, but you should be able to find it on your online timetable if you are enrolled for the course. Alternatively, you can ask me via email.
The suggested (but not required) textbook for this course is:
Pressley, A. (2010). Elementary Differential Geometry. Second Edition. Springer London.
The lectures shall generally follow the order of the topics in this book. You can use it to catch up in case you fall behind and also for further exercises. However, the definitive examinable content for the MATH-3B03 course is whatever I say in lectures and not what is on the suggested textbook. Attend the lectures if you want to pass this course.
There are weekly assignments handed out in lecture on Tuesdays. You should submit your solutions to the assignments in person in the Tuesday lectures as well. In total there will be nine assignments but only the best eight count towards your final grade.
Your final mark is calculated from your final exam, your midterm test and your 8 best assignments with the following weights:
There are weekly office hours on Thursdays 15:30-16:20 on each term time week in my office: Hamilton Hall 414.
Firstly, please review the University Policy and the Faculty Policy concerning missed work. Additionally, note the following.
The MSAF cannot be used for academic work that has already been completed or attempted.
For any accommodation to apply, your absence must be documented by an MSAF, or by a communication from your faculty office if you already used an MSAF.
If you miss the midterm test and have an MSAF for it, then the weight of the test is transferred to the final exam. If you miss the midterm test and do not have an MSAF for it, then you will receive a mark of zero for the test.
If you miss one or two assignments and have an MSAF for them, then the weight of the missed assignments is transferred to the remaining assignments. If you miss more than two assignments and have an MSAF for them, then you must contact me via email as soon as possible. If you miss an assignment and do not have an MSAF for it, then you will receive a mark of zero for this assignment.
Final exams are organized by the University and not by me. For information, please use your Mosaic account.
